Anyone visiting or living in Hawaii has probably seen the Madagascar gecko, or “daytime gecko” as most people call them — the bright green lizard with distinctive “gold dust” and red spots can be seen everywhere, and are one of the more attractive lizard species on the island.

Like most geckos, the daytime gecko can cling to almost any surface, and can be seen running up walls, along the railing of your lanai (porch), or basking in a shaft of sunlight almost everywhere in the islands.

Many people confuse this species of gecko with the anole. This is understandable, since both are bright green lizards around the same size, but the anole are more lean with angular heads and thin toes and long skinny tails, while the Madagascar gecko has a broader body, shorter wider tail, and little pads on their toes, all of which help them stick to your wall or even ceiling with ease. I’m looking for a new bedding for my monitor lizard. He don’t seem to like the bedding that he’s in right now. I knew ball pythons could be picky, but I had no idea that my lizard would be so fickle. The first bedding I got jumped in price, so I got this one and he avoids walking on it as much as possible, which is fun to watch, but I’d rather just get him one he’s happy with before he hurts himself.
