Choosing A Vet For Your Cat Or Dog (Or Something More Exotic)

In recent years there has been a growing trend to have more and more exotic pets. Gone are the days when pets were restricted to cats, dogs and perhaps goldfish and budgerigars. Nowadays people own all manner of reptiles including snakes, lizards and even insects and spiders.
So, whether you see yourself as the more traditional pet owner with a dog or a cat or as the owner of a more unusual pet such as a snake the problem of looking after your pet if it falls ill has to be dealt with. Finding a suitable vet clinic for your pet is an issue that you have to address at some point.

However, it is best not to wait until your pet gets ill and then have to make a choice in an emergency. Start looking for a suitable vet as soon as you acquire your pet. This will give you more time to make the best decision.
If you live near a large city this is usually less of a problem, so if you need to find specialised animal care London is likely to offer a wide range of options.

Of course, having to choose from a long list of veterinary practices can be quite a challenge in itself. Most people start off by searching on the Internet. This is a good approach especially if you have a more exotic pet; you may also find that there are special interest groups for these and they usually run some kind of forum where you can ask other owner how they get the best treatment for their snake, lizard and so on.
For more usual pets like cats and dogs it is a good idea to ask other owners in your neighbourhood. Walking your dog for example is a good way to meet other owners – cats may prove a bit more difficult!

Once you have identified one or two possible vet clinics it is well worth your while to visit them personally and ask some questions. In this way you can quickly get a very good impression of the quality of care available. Be sure to check out some simple things like staffing levels, hours of opening, provision of emergency care, facilities available, and the specialisations of the vets in the practice. And of course, don’t forget to check out the costs. Although it is an excellent location for animal care London prices are not cheap but you can be sure of value for money.

A simple common sense approach to choosing your vet can be of great benefit to both you and your pet

Spotting the Madagascar Gecko

Anyone visiting or living in Hawaii has probably seen the Madagascar gecko, or “daytime gecko” as most people call them — the bright green lizard with distinctive “gold dust” and red spots can be seen everywhere, and are one of the more attractive lizard species on the island.

Like most geckos, the daytime gecko can cling to almost any surface, and can be seen running up walls, along the railing of your lanai (porch), or basking in a shaft of sunlight almost everywhere in the islands.

Many people confuse this species of gecko with the anole. This is understandable, since both are bright green lizards around the same size, but the anole are more lean with angular heads and thin toes and long skinny tails, while the Madagascar gecko has a broader body, shorter wider tail, and little pads on their toes, all of which help them stick to your wall or even ceiling with ease. The linked site has photos and even downloadable screensavers of the lizards as well as many other beautiful things in Hawaii.

Outfitting Reptile Habitats

I’m looking for a new bedding for my monitor lizard. He don’t seem to like the bedding that he’s in right now. I knew ball pythons could be picky, but I had no idea that my lizard would be so fickle. The first bedding I got jumped in price, so I got this one and he avoids walking on it as much as possible, which is fun to watch, but I’d rather just get him one he’s happy with before he hurts himself. I checked out the detail on reptile habitats on this one website and there are reviews, which are really good because you can see how other pets liked certain brands of bedding and other habitat stuff.

Baby Animals, Kids adore them.

My daughter just turned five, and she is fascinated with many things. One of her favorite topics of conversation is about baby animals. We are planning a trip to Australia, and she talks about holding a baby koala and getting to see baby kangaroos while she is there. She just got a new puppy for her birthday, and that puppy has three babies. Thankfully they are stuffed and not real. She loves animals of all kinds, but the baby ones seem to attract her attention the most.
Perhaps her love of baby animals comes from the fact that she can relate to them the most. They are small, like she is, and they have a mommy and daddy, just like she does. Baby animals also need to be cared for, just like she does, and they are not old enough to venture off on their own. They are also cute, and children love things that are cute and cuddly. The babies are often close to their moms at all times, and most young children can identify with this. They spend much of their day with mom also, so it only makes sense that they feel a connection with something else that does the same thing. An article on Baby Animals

Iguana Care Tips

Iguanas are strict herbivores. Old books on iguana care still say that you need to feed small insects to an iguana. This advice is backed by the fact that some iguanas have been seen consuming small insects in the wild. However, you should know that wild iguanas usually eat insects accidentally, when some such insect lands on a piece of vegetable matter that the iguana is eating …

Would A Gecko Make A Good Pet?

“Have you ever considered owning a lizard? They can make better pets than you think, however they are not your ‘usual’ pets and so require special attention and a special kind of person to appreciate the kind of affection and attention that they give you. I have an interest in geckos – particularly leopard geckos, I don’t know what it is about them but I think they are cute. Did you know that they can walk up glass? or even across ceilings? Yep that’s right, their ‘sticking’ powers have been of much interest to science recently who are trying, without much success, to replicate the supernatural power of these amazing creatures.”

Pets are a wonderful part of our lives. We consider them part of our family. It truly is our duty to take care of them like we would a child, or at least in a similar respect. While they can be an endless source of entertainment, pets can also be a big chore. If you have an indoor cat, then you know what I mean.
