I think when I go off on a vacation and leave my pet behind an emotion akin to betrayal overcomes me. Call me a sooky lala but one of the hardest things when planning for a vacation that I have found is actually deciding where to take a valuable member of the family. Puppies are so cute, but they also love to dig in the dirt. More often than not, they dig where you don’t really want them to.

I posted an article that outlines some steps you can take to deter your digging puppy from digging in the wrong places.

If you’ve worked the ground to this delectable state, you need to install a fence of chicken wire around it, to a height of at least three feet. The chicken wire should be buried in the ground about a foot below the surface. Should your digging puppy attempt to dig under, the wire will make it less attractive as their paws and claws encounter this hindrance.

Some cats claw things. That is just the way that it is. They have the urge to do this, and you are probably not going to be able to use cat behavior modification to stop them from doing it. You can show them where it is acceptable to do this, however. You have to have something in the home that is okay for them to scratch. Put this where they can get to it, or even near where they have already been scratching. For this type of pet behavior modification, that might be all it takes, but not always.
