The first 3-4 days after you bring your guinea pigs home, it can be very tempting to pick them up and cuddle with them. However, they’re in a new area – and a new very scary area to them, and they need time to get adjusted to that.

Give them several days more to adjust to their new areas and life, because this is a very stressful time for them because of the changes. Try to avoid or minimize making loud noises and hovering around them, because they need to take time to feel comfortable and get used to what’s new around them.

Note:

You need to ensure that when you bring one or more guinea pigs into the house that they each have a good place or area to hide – each guinea pig needs his or her own hiding place, too, or a fight could break out!

Before You Start Dog Breeding Consider These Things

If you are thinking about starting dog breeding, you should take doing so very seriously.

Do select your favorite breed, one that you know well, and in which you know well the favored traits of the breed and can commit yourself to the improvement of that breed.

The impulse to create which is so urgent an attribute of the human spirit can and does find its release in the breeding of dogs. In his ability to ordain the existence of a new organism and to order what it shall be like, the breeder realizes a power that is but little short of godlike.

Bringing together the germ plasma of two dogs from which to mold a third to his own liking, he becomes a veritable sculptor in living flesh. Any critical verdict about his creature as a work of art must rest upon whether or not the breeder has employed the right materials in the right manner best to approximate the breeder’s ideal dog of any specific breed.

For a fine dog may well be a work of art. However, if the dog be merely the result of the unplanned, chance union of the parental * gametes, the words art and artistry can hardly be applied to its production. The person who passes as breeder of such a one is not a breeder at all but merely the possessor of the dam at the time of her copulation with the sire.

It is futile to deny that good dogs do so arise. Indeed, it was not until recent years that enough was known of the reproductive processes to permit of more than merely the mating of the best available male to the best available female and trusting to luck (and her excellence was considered as of only minor moment).
