Whats that on the leash?! A Chihuahua, a Shih tzu, a Yorkie? No, its my cat! and I’m proud to walk him in his kitty harness with his florescent pink leash. Like many cat fanciers, I felt cruel listening to my cats chatter at the birds outside, exclaiming how lucky they are to have a window between them, or they would be dinner. Well no longer, I’ve decided to take a stand, er a walk. I decided to start walking my cat. I know now that I’m neither crazy(because of walking my cat) nor alone in walking my cat on a leash. My cat who allows me to walk him is primarily an indoor cat, and after I made some slight mods to an existing dog harness and the rest is cat walking history. In my opinion you should get to know kittys actions while walking him for the first time, and if you plan on walking kitty regularly please check with your Vet about immunizations that aren’t normally given to indoor only cats. If you live in a metro area like most of us do try to find a nice park to walk at, reducing the risk of broken glass and other hazards. My park secret is to walk kitty at night when the dog lovers have left for the evening, or early morning before they show up, after all theres no need for fur to fly unnecessarily.

Black Beauty is the autobiography of a horse, who narrates it’s own story. Through various owners who ask different tasks of Black Beauty, he grows and has numerous adventures. He goes from being a riding and carriage horse through being a mistreated town cab horse to eventual happiness in a secure home. Notably, the animal keeps strength and good temper throughout his suffering and the story was extremely influential as pro-animal propaganda but it is also an extremely exciting and moving children’s story.

Black Beauty was the only book written by Anna Sewell, although its continued popularity among children, particularly girls, has justified that effort. Sewell was, remarkably, paid only twenty pounds for the book and it was published three months before her death, in 1877. However, its immediate success gave her great pleasure and she died in the knowledge that the book had indeed encouraged people to treat animals less cruelly.

A few days ago, we decided to surprise our son with a new puppy for his twelfth birthday. Our son had been asking for a pet several years ago, but we didn’t feel that he could handle the responsibility of taking care of a pet back then. I told my son that he would be completely responsible for the dog’s care. It would be his responsibility to take his puppy for walks, play with it, feed it, and train it. Children love to read, and they especially love reading books about animals. My toddler currently has about thirty zoo books in his collection and we read them every day. I use the word “we” loosely since I am the one reading his zoo books to him, but often he will point to animals and say their names so it is sort of like we are reading together.

Why is it that my neighbor can’t seem to figure out that when he locked his untrained payout and goes off to work all day that the dog does nothing to bark, bark and bark. What an idiot, a neighbor I mean, not that the dog.  I don’t plan a little puppy, how is he supposed to know better? He barks out of loneliness, out of frustration, out of anxiety, and out of fear.  Occasionally he barks to protect his territory, pitiful as it is with its leftover poop, a water bowl turned over, and a single ratty chew toy the dog outgrew the first week it was brought to the house.  I wonder if this moron has ever heard of dog-training books?
