If you touch your dog around the ears or the nose he may feel hot. Just as with humans a fever will raise the overall temperature to combat infections from bacteria, viruses and ingested toxins, the same is true of dogs. In humans touching the skin will ascertain if the temperature is raised. However, a dog’s temperature is normally 3 degrees above that of a human: somewhere between 37.8°C (100°F) and 39.3°C (102.7°F). So Rover will naturally feel warm; but to a human touch how warm is warm? Your dog is not in a position to speak.

Many people would like to own a Golden Retriever, but have neither the time, inclination or patience to fight their way through the puppy stage. For people who fall into this category, help is at hand in the facility to adopt an older dog. As a breed, Golden Retrievers are renowned for their even temper, so they make excellent family pets. A mature dog has no growing up to do, so what you see is usually what you get. However, before adopting any dog, see if you can spend some time with the animal before you agree to take it on. This is especially important if there are children in your home.

Sometimes, breeders will offer older animals for sale. This could mean that the dog in question was a show dog for example, but have now outgrown that task. Or perhaps they were a breeding dog, and have retired. There could be any number of other reasons though, but whatever the reason, a breeder is always a good port of call for an older dog to adopt.

House breaking a puppy should start immediately, just after you bring him home. Even if he is only 7 or 8 weeks old, he wants to eagerly follow your lead…. it’s important to use puppy housebreaking training methods that will help him develop the appropriate behavior. Your puppy will make the decision where and when he will relieve himself if he is not trained early and correctly. This, of course, is unacceptable. It is up to you to communicate where you want him to go. Puppies will learn very quickly when they understand what is expected of them.

If you have found a tick on your pet, you need to get it out. Pull your pet’s hair away from the tick. Then use tweezers to grab the tick. Try to get as close to the head as possible. Do not squeeze the tweezers. Instead pull up and away from your pet, pulling the tick out. Do this slowly so you do not break off the head of the tick. Then flush the tick down the toilet.

Basically, there are three levels when it comes to obedience competition
. At each level, the handler-dog team must perform at a specific level three times. When a team first starts, they are award a certain number of points. Points are deducted for each error that is made during the level of competition. The gravity of the mistake dictates the number of points that are deducted.
