Dog Shock Collars – Would You Want to Wear One?
Shock collars for dogs are not meant to injure your pooch, but rather help with overall training or correcting unwanted behavior. Shock levels on dog collars are generally lower than the shock emitted from static electricity on carpeting, according to Pet Education. Shock collars come in different sizes and intensities with a variety of types. They work with batteries, some of which are rechargeable.
Dog shock collars are typically used to stop anti-social or disruptive behavior when traditional training methods, such as reward-based training, have failed. A key benefit of dog shock dog collars is that they give dog owners control over their animal’s behavior, even when it is off its leash.
There are three basic types of shock collars:
* the manual collar which requires a person to press a button to shock the dog,
* the bark activated shock collar and,
* the electronic fence type that shocks the dog when it approaches or crosses a given perimeter.
Before deciding to purchase a shock collar to train your dog, search YouTube for dog shock collars and see the harm they are capable of causing even on humans that are much larger than a dog.
Dog shock collars can be great deterrents and useful tools when training a particularly difficult dog. However, they should only be used as a last resort, and only at a level that doesn’t actually injure the dog, just gets his mind back to what he should be doing.
