Dog Coprophagia
For some dog owners, one unexpected facet of their dogs behavior may be Coprophagia. In laymans terms, this means your dog is eating its own excrement.
It is quite normal for mother dogs to eat the stools of their babies in order to maintain a clean environment. Plus, engaging in coprophagia is a protective instinct. The mother dog is attempting to get rid of scents that might entice predator animals from attacking or killing her young. Young dogs may learn feces eating behavior from watching their mother. Or, dogs might learn this practice from watching other dogs that already exhibit it.
