The Complete Guide To Buying A Horse

Buying A Horse

There are plenty of horses you shouldn’t buy out there. Some have bad habits like biting, kicking or cribbing which is what horse fanciers call the act of chewing on the edge of a stall. Others are not well trained. Although they may know some of the basics, they are only green broke, meaning they may be willing to wear a saddle, but do not know all of the signals that a thoroughly trained horse knows. Light Horse Breed Overview

Horse Breeds

One of the oldest light horse breeds is the graceful, speedy Arabian. This horse breed is known for its stamina and endurance and has been competing in desert races for hundreds of years. However, this breed is also popular for being beautiful inside and out. Unlike some other breeds, most Arabian horses are known for being sweet natured and loving. Horse Breeds Explained

Do You Understand Your Horse?

Your Horse Guide

The Icelandic horse (pony-sized but called a horse) provides an opportunity to compare contemporary and historical breed appearances and behaviour. Introduced by the Vikings into Iceland, Icelandic horses did not subsequently undergo the intensive selective breeding that took place in the rest of Europe from the Middle Ages onwards, and consequently bear a closer resemblance to pre-Medieval breeds. The Icelandic horse has a four-beat gait called the “tölt”, which equates to the rack exhibited by several American gaited breeds. Horses explained

Article on Dog Houses

It can be pretty hard to select a first project if you’re just getting into do-it-yourself carpentry. Something like a spice rack might seem too conceived, and anyway who doesn’t already own a spice rack? Personally, I recommend sticking to something practical and doing it right. Most people don’t want to start with major pieces such as a living room table, but all the same it is a great boost of encouragement to be able to use your first projects to good effect. This is why for pet owners everywhere, I recommend dog houses as a first project.

There are several reasons why dog houses are a great way to start. One of the best reasons is the availability of dog house plans. You can find plans to build anything from a single room doghouse to large dog kennel houses fit to house a whole pack. Even more important is the simplicity of the project. Building your own dog house couldn’t be any easier!

Article on Dog Gift Baskets

When I first heard about dog gift baskets, I was pretty irritated. It was my friend Amy who told me about it. Amy is a dear, and we have been good friends for many years, but in some ways she is one of the most annoying people on this planet. She loves anything cutesy, fluffy, frilly, or adorable. We are as different as night and day. When I asked her for suggestions for her birthday present, she told me to get a dog gift basket. When I looked incredulous, she patiently explained to me that she celebrated her dog’s birthday on the same day as her own. Getting a gift basket for dogs was the perfect way to make her happy by helping her celebrate the special day of her adorable little pet.

Needless to say, the concept of dog gift baskets was not particularly appealing to me. I understood that dog lover gift baskets were as much for the person as for the dog, but even so it seemed like a poor way to express my friendship for Amy. I knew that was what she wanted, but I wanted to get her something specifically tailored for her interests, not the interests of her dog. All dogs are basically alike. They all love squeaky toys, dog treats, ratty towels that they can play tug-of-war with, and sticks that they can catch, as well is anything smelly. One generic dog gift basket will do equally well for any dog that there is. It just seemed like a bad present to get.

Animal Posters

From animal kingdom posters in science classrooms to hang in there cat posters in offices, animal posters are big right now. It is pretty funny, because when I was growing up I remember animals posters as being almost exclusively reserved for kids. My little sister in particular used to love having animal pictures on her wall. She would go through phases. One month, she would be into horses and cover her entire bedroom with horse posters. A month later, she would switch over, and go crazy over bunnies. Whatever it was, it would always be fluffy and cute.

Of course, we frequently have a lot of animals posters hanging around my house as well. You see, my girlfriend is a science educator. As such, animal posters are sort of her bread and butter. She teaches a class about bats, And it seems like every week I see a new bat poster. Some will show all of the different varieties of bats in their native habitats, while other ones will dramatize the nocturnal hunting of insects to capture the imaginations of children. While I think bats are pretty neat, I always assumed that animals posters were mostly for decoration. Seeing kids walking around at the science fair she was holding changed that opinion.

Cat Feeder

Do you have a cat? If the answer is yes, then you likely want to feed them the best food on the market. In addition to offering them the proper nutrition available today, you should also consider how much you’re feeding them. I for one know that felines can pack on the pounds. In my house we have three. All like to consume much more than they actually need. At one point the vet requested that I put them on a diet, since all of them needed to drop a few pounds. Now you have to consider that “a few pounds” is a large percentage of their body weight. If your cat weighs 15 pounds total, and the vet tells you he needs to lose three of them, that’s 20 percent of his/her weight. Imagine how much that would be for a human. Get the picture? Well, you can do what I did and purchase an electronic cat feeder. This makes things pretty simple. Even when you’re not home or off on vacation for the week.

Dog House

We always had a dog when I was growing up, but my stepfather insisted that they were outdoor dogs, and that they would sleep in a dog house each night. I never really liked that, but that was the way things were, and I was in no position to change his mind. I always felt bad for the dogs, and would sit outside with them for hours to be sure they had some company. Sometimes, I would be the only person paying attention to them for weeks on end.

There is nothing wrong with a good dog house. That’s for certain. However, a dog should never be chained outdoors with no interaction from their owners. It’s not a good life for them, and they long for the company of humans and even other dogs. Instead, the dog house should be somewhere they can go for part of the day, but they should be a part of the family for the rest of the time. Many have a house their pet can use while in a fenced in yard, but they are not forced to remain there all of the time.

Dog Collars and Leashes

It’s completely understandable if you’re a pet lover. I think the majority of us are. Okay, with the exception of my barber, who gave his dog to the pound when he had new carpet put in his home. OUCH, that’s pretty darn harsh. What must the old K-9 think of him? But, as for most of us, we treat our cats and dogs like family. They lounge on the living room couch, sit next to the table while we eat dinner, Sleep at the foot of our beds, and even kick back in the Jacuzzi with us. Okay, maybe that’s just at my house. Anyway, one aspect of owning a K-9 that we mustn’t forget is dog collars and leashes. Protect your dogs!

Let’s ponder the notion of dog collars and leashes. Why should your K-9 have a collar around his neck? Well, it’s pretty obvious if you ask me. The collar will have his/her name and phone number on it just in case the dog runs off or gets lost outdoors. This can definitely happen. I believe you when you say your dog is trained and obeys commands, but virtually any dog will resort to his instincts if something sets him off. Imagine if you were strolling through the park with your dog and suddenly he spotted a squirrel on the run. No doubt he would pursue the small critter, because that’s what they do. Animals can’t help, nor can they control their instincts half the time. This is why dog collars and leashes are imperative. Keep your K-9 on a leash and it will save you plenty of running and yelling.

Recommended Non-Shedding Dog Breeds

Many people consider owning a pet dog, but they decide not to do it as they dislike the never ending mess that the almost perpetual loss of dog hair can cause in their homes.

They want a dog that retains his or her coat, and never drops any. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a dog that doesn’t shed at all. All dogs will moult at least some of their hair, just like people do.  However, there do exist some breeds that shed far less than others.

We would like to report to you the non shedding characteristics of the following dog breeds:-

Airedale Terrier:

The Airedale terrier is a large dog which sheds minimally. in our article we describe the merits of the Airedale breed.

Cockapoo:

The Cockapoo is similar to the Poodle, and does not shed much but does require above average grooming. Learn more by reading the full article.

Italian Greyhound:

The Italian Greyhound is in fact a miniature Greyhound. The they look like their larger racing relatives, but the coat of the Italian
Greyhound is short and sleek and this breed doesn’t shed much hair at all.

Miniature Poodle:

The Miniature Poodle is not truly a breed all to itself, but is one of the three AKC recognized sizes of Poodles. Like all
Poodles, shed very little, from their their short, curly coats, but again do require considerable grooming.

Air Purification System

There are a great number of people who have allergies. It seems the numbers are increasing all the time. Allergies are something that you can develop at any time in your life, at times those that are developed as adults are more difficult to deal with than childhood reactions. People can develop allergies to anything from foods, to animals to plants. They do tend to be seasonal, unless you are allergic to molds or dust, which are always around us.

There are many things that can be done in the home environment of a person with allergies to help them be more comfortable. For a person that is allergic to dust and other airborne particles remove carpets. Carpeting can trap all sorts of allergens. Also purchase a good air purification system. There are many quality ones on the market today. It does pay to research the air purification system well before purchasing. There are some systems on the market that work very well, however they make so much noise it is difficult to have them running when you are in the same room with them. The main thing you want to insure in purchasing an air purification system is that it is affordable to maintain. Many of the machines that use filters have to have them changed on a regular basis to work properly. If the filters are high priced running this particular machine can get expensive. Also check to see how large of an area the air purification system can handle. For some units you need to have more than one unit in bigger spaces.
