When the next door neighbor (to use a cliché, from HELL, originally) locks his poor puppy black Labrador in this four by six cage and goes off to do his truck driving job for ten hours a day, he doesn’t get that as soon as he is gone, the dog begins to bark: woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. All. Day. Long. The dog barks at noises, at footsteps (of people INSIDE their homes), at sirens, at birds. He barks out of loneliness, out of frustration, out of anxiety, and out of fear. Occasionally he barks to protect his territory, pitiful as it is with its leftover poop, a water bowl turned over, and a single ratty chew toy the dog outgrew the first week it was brought to the house. Dear clueless human, have you ever heard of dog-training books?

Parrots, and other Psittacine Birds, have been kept as pets for centuries; since the days of ancient Rome, Greece and other civilizations before them. The African Grey Parrot was the best known in Europe during those times, and was brought in by the merchant galleys. In India and China, which had older civiliza­tions, the Alexandrine and other Asiatic Par-rakeets were kept by the natives. Back in South America, the Incas and other Indian nations kept Macaws and the var­ious species of Amazon Parrots.

The most recent and most beautifully colored Psittacine Birds known to man are the Parrakeets and Cockatoos of the Australian Continent, of which 59 species are known to science. Australian Birds were introduced in Europe only about 200 years ago. Some of these Parrakeets are now rare and in danger of extinction due to the encroachment of civ­ilization.

 If you own a cat, you have to put up with having a liter box in your home. If you have a large home, you probably have somewhere out of the way to keep it, and it may not bother you very much. However, if you have a small place like I do, a cat litter box can be something that drives you nuts. I love my cats, but I do not love having to deal with the litter box. Though it might seem easy to scoop it a few times a day, which is not always something I can do. That’s not the only problem either, as they are other annoyances that come with it.

I did not find this to unusual because I know many people, including me, that purchase a gift for their pet during the holiday season. Although the advantage flea medication was supposed to naturally take care of things in one application, it did not. Advantage flea medicine is basically a small liquid capsule that you can empty on your pet. It is supposed to last for weeks, and spread around as your cat or dog moves about the room, killing all, or almost all of the fleas. In reality, within a week of using the advantage flea medicine, the pests were back almost as strong as ever. Black Beauty is the autobiography of a horse, who narrates it’s own story. Through various owners who ask different tasks of Black Beauty, he grows and has numerous adventures. He goes from being a riding and carriage horse through being a mistreated town cab horse to eventual happiness in a secure home. Notably, the animal keeps strength and good temper throughout his suffering and the story was extremely influential as pro-animal propaganda but it is also an extremely exciting and moving children’s story.

Black Beauty was the only book written by Anna Sewell, although its continued popularity among children, particularly girls, has justified that effort. Sewell was, remarkably, paid only twenty pounds for the book and it was published three months before her death, in 1877. However, its immediate success gave her great pleasure and she died in the knowledge that the book had indeed encouraged people to treat animals less cruelly.
It’s a remarkable audio book for children and adults alike. If you like horses, you’ll love this audio!

In the past, I have used the towel method to work with biting birds, and it is something that seems to work very well with my parrots. There are a couple of reasons why I use and recommend this method of taming parrots. First and most importantly, it works very well. Second, it is a gentle method of taming that builds trust between both the human and the bird. Last, it allows an owner to tame a parrot while almost completely eliminating the chance for the owner to be bitten.

It is much easier to build a rabbit cage than you might think.  Although commercially available rabbit cages do have some advantages, in general they are cruel and inhumane.  They have metal bars on the bottom that hurt the rabbit’s feet, and they do not give the bunny enough room to move around. If you build a rabbit cage, however, you can make it as big as you want.  You can even build a rabbit hutch outside with plenty of room for the rabbit to run all over the yard.
