Modern day pitbulls, are believed to be decendents of Europen bulldogs, and other related breeds. These dogs were of very powerful mastiffs bred for farm work.
Specifically, these dogs accompanied farmers into the fields to help with catching dangerous bulls in for breeding, castration, or to be butchered.
These dogs, known generally as this cross buldog breed, protected the farmer by subduing the bull if it attempted to gore him. Typically a pitbull would do this by biting the bull on the nose and holding on until the bull submitted.
Due to the fact that this was the dogs main duty, this buldog breed were bred to have very powerful jaws, a strong muscular build, and the resolve to hold onto a violently-struggling bull, even when injured.

They ate the fence. No, really. Some dogs moved in next door with their people and our dogs wanted to chat. Lots of the usual doggie discussion (bones, things to do with cats, and so on…) and then … nothing. So out I go, into the back yard, to find no dogs! Peeking over the fence (with the new dog sized hole…) I see our Rottie coming out of the neighbor’s dog door, water dripping from her mouth…

To teach your dog how to come to you when called, requires only the most basic of techniques but it does involve  lots of repetition. The easiest way to get your dog to come to you, is to have a toy in one hand and a dog treat in the other. When you are in the house simply walk away from your dog, hold out the toy and call him to you in an excited voice, when he comes over to investigate, give him a treat. Always use the same command for getting your dog to come to you, otherwise he will not learn.
